Het enigmatische, London-based folkduo Milkweed behoort samen met Lankum, Shovel Dance Collective, ØXN en Brìghde Chaimbeul tot een van de meest meeslepende folkacts van dit moment. Samen vormen ze het overtuigende bewijs dat de hedendaagse folk levendiger en spannender is dan ooit tevoren.
Hun muziek - die ze zelf slacker trad noemen - is een samensmelting van traditionele folk, freak folk, dub en spoken word, verpakt in een lo-fi opname-esthetiek. Het is alsof oude Europese mythen worden doorgegeven via de stem van een geest uit de Appalachen.
Voor het eerst zakken ze af naar het vasteland om hun onlangs verschenen album Remscéla (Broadside Hacks Recordings) voor te stellen. De plaat is geïnspireerd op Thomas Kinsella’s meesterlijke vertaling van de Táin Bó Cúailnge, een soort Ierse legende in de stijl van Koning Arthur en waarschijnlijk de meest beroemde sage van Ierland.
